ABOUT CIMR

Chinese Institutes for Medical Research (CIMR) is a newly founded institution dedicated to fundamental and translational medical research. The CIMR is located at the main campus of the Capital Medical UniversityBeijingChina and committed to building a scientist-centered governance framework and fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. For more information, please visit our website: www.cimrbj.ac.cn

ABOUT IGM

The Institute for Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGM) is dedicated to advancing research on congenital genetic diseases, cancer, metabolic disorders, and immune-related diseases. We focus on integrating genetic research with the development of diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, aiming to translate disease research into clinical applications. Leveraging the abundant clinical resources of affiliated hospitals of Capital Medical University, IGM supports translational research that bridges bench to bedside. We encourage close collaboration between laboratories and clinical departments to identify disease-causing genes from clinical samples, conduct mechanistic studies and therapeutic development in the lab, and rapidly validate and optimize diagnostic and treatment approaches in patient populations.

Laboratory Introduction

Liming Wang is Investigator and Director of Institute for Genetics and Molecular Medicine, Chinese Institutes for Medical Research, Beijing, and doctoral supervisor.

The laboratory has long focused on researching the neurobiological regulatory mechanisms of body metabolism. It has published numerous research papers in renowned journals such as Nature, Nature Neuroscience, PNAS, eLife, and Cell Research. Meanwhile, it is committed to public science communication and education, publishing popular science books including The Biology Cultivation of Foodies, God's Scalpel, What Is Life, Laughing to the End, and Virus Science for the Busy, with a circulation of over 300,000 copies. Laboratory Research Directions

The survival and health of animals, including humans, largely depend on the precise regulation and maintenance of energy and essential nutrient levels in the body, and the central nervous system (CNS) plays an indispensable role in this regard. By real-time sensing of energy and nutrient reserves within the body, as well as the distribution of food in the environment, the CNS ensures metabolic balance in animals through sophisticated behavioral regulation. Once this regulatory mechanism is disrupted, it may trigger a series of neural and metabolic diseases, including eating disorders and obesity.

Our laboratory has broad interests in biological questions related to the interaction between the nervous system and metabolic system. Our recent research will primarily use techniques such as quantitative behavioral analysis, in vivo calcium imaging, genetic screening and analysis, single-cell transcriptomics, and circuit tracing in Drosophila and mouse models to investigate the following two independent but interrelated biological questions:

How does the nervous system participate in the regulation of energy and essential nutrient metabolism in the body?

How do various organs in animals collaborate in the regulation of body metabolism and the occurrence of metabolic diseases?
