Background and Institute:

The aim of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute (LBI HO) is to identify and characterize leukemic stem cells (LSC) in hematopoietic neoplasms, to identify markers and critical targets in these cells, and to examine the effects of targeted drugs on their growth and survival. With this approach, the LBI HO will establish a solid basis for the development of improved LSC- eradicating treatment concepts in patients with hematopoietic malignancies.

The laboratories of the LBI HO are mainly located at the Medical University of Vienna. The LBI HO is embedded in the biggest university hospital of Austria (AKH Wien) and the Medical University of Vienna. Whom do we seek:

To further strengthen the research profile of the institute, we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced postdoc with a strong background in cancer research and experimental hematology. By joining our institute, you will be fully integrated in several key projects of the LBI with the opportunity to develop key concepts around diagnostic phenotyping, targeting of leukemic stem cells, and related efforts to translate the identified (diagnostic and prognostic) markers and targets into clinical practice.

Job Responsibilities:

Preparation and conduct of research projects:

Formulating aims and establishing the research plan in research projects

Collection, evaluation, and interpretation of research data

Preparation of abstracts, research reports, and manuscripts for publication

Preparation of research grant applications and grant acquisition

Supervision of students and research technicians

Performing other job-related duties as assigned

This position is covered by a postdoc salary according to the guidelines of the FWF (https: // www. fwf.ac.at/en/research-funding/personnel-costs).

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take a key role in translational research projects of the consortium and the option to advance to a group leader within the LBI HO. The LBI HO is embedded in a vivid scientific environment supporting translational research at the Medical University of Vienna. The senior postdoc will also be included in these local facilities and translational cooperations. In addition, the postdoc will also be integrated in several collaborations between the LBI and other major institutes and groups in Vienna and also in several international collaborations.

Offer Requirements Skills/Qualifications

You are expected to have:

Major interest in experimental hematology and translational research

Experience in cell culture technologies and flow cytometry

Experience in data analysis and interpretation, including statistics

A proven record of scientific publications

A PhD in a scientific field relevant to biomedical research

Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken
