Job Description

This position is responsible for conducting chemical characterizations and product development using medicinal plant species commonly used in the herbal dietary supplement products. Additionally, the position will assist the principal investigator with ongoing projects and research, assist in writing research finding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; writing competitive grant proposals; train students and research assistants and technicians. It is vital that the. Works independently with minimal supervision and in a collaborative environment among team of highly diverse team of scientists.

This position is funded by grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities:

•Works under the supervision of the Research Scientist in the Plant Systems group and leading the effort in obtaining ISO lab standard certifications; ensuring that the objectives of the project are being met in a sequential timely manner.

•Assists the research scientist with documenting, analyzing and preparing the research data and outcomes for presentation to the project investigators and dissemination in a variety of forums including a role in communicating the results through official channels to campus community and stakeholders and publish or co-author at least two manuscripts on the research results/outcomes.

•Participates in research proposal writing with an interdisciplinary team of research scientists for external funding in support of the research and teaching projects of the Plant systems and engage in existing research on agricultural and biomedical studies using naturally existing biodegradable polymeric systems already approved by the Plan of Work of the College and Institutional Biosafety Committee.

•Trains and mentors undergraduate students, research assistants and technicians, and scholars assigned to the Plant Systems laboratory. Assists in achieving the College’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Required Education & Experience:

•Doctorate degree in a related discipline.

•No prior experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

•Magnetic Resonance Spectrometry, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, Particle Size Methods, Particle Stability Methods, Viscosity Methods, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Thermogravimetric Analysis, Dynamic Light Scattering, or Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.

•Experience in chemical and physical modifications of nanoparticles.

•Experience in chemical characterization including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry, Nuclear

•Excellent writing skills and high proficiency in scientific writing.

•Advanced course background or practical knowledge of nanotechnology are highly desirable.

•Proven ability to work under pressure to meet both internal and external deadlines.

•Effective communicate skills to interact with a diverse population and create a positive research environment for students.
